What is glüf?

glüf is an AI-powered restaurant discovery platform built specifically for people living with coeliac disease. It helps coeliacs find restaurants that are genuinely safe to eat at — not just places that list gluten-free options, but places that actually understand what that means in practice.

glüf is not a restaurant guide. It is a safety tool that happens to live in a restaurant guide.

Who built glüf, and why?

glüf was founded by Nicola Gray, Jack, and Harry. Nicola is the wife of a coeliac. That personal connection is not a marketing line — it shapes every decision the team makes. The problem is lived, not hypothetical.

Nicola brings 13 years of experience in international sales strategy and category growth. Jack is a software and systems developer with a focus on cyber security. Harry has a background in digitalisation and enterprise systems consulting. Together they built glüf from the ground up, bootstrapped, because they could not find anything that actually solved the problem.

Who is glüf for?

glüf is built primarily for people diagnosed with coeliac disease. It is also used by people with non-coeliac gluten sensitivity, and by friends and family members who are choosing restaurants for a group that includes a coeliac.

Coeliac disease affects approximately 1 to 1.4% of the population globally, with prevalence rising. Up to 11% of people report some form of gluten sensitivity. For all of these people, the consequences of eating at the wrong restaurant are not just inconvenient — they can be seriously harmful.

What makes glüf different from other gluten-free apps?

Most gluten-free restaurant apps rely on voluntary, crowd-sourced reviews that are often outdated, inconsistent, or written by people without coeliac disease. A four-star review from someone who is simply avoiding gluten by preference tells a coeliac very little about whether the kitchen is actually safe.

glüf takes a different approach. It uses large language model technology to analyse publicly available information and generate structured safety profiles for restaurants. These profiles are then strengthened over time by structured post-visit feedback from users, rated against four specific criteria that matter clinically: staff knowledge, labelling clarity, gluten-free variety, and taste.

The result is a living, improving picture of how safe each restaurant actually is — not a static snapshot based on a handful of old reviews. glüf is also completely free for users, and intends to stay that way.

Is glüf a guarantee of safety?

No. glüf reduces risk — it does not eliminate it. Coeliac disease is a serious autoimmune condition and no app can guarantee that a kitchen will be safe on any given visit. glüf provides the best available information to help coeliacs make more confident, lower-risk decisions. Users should always inform restaurant staff of their dietary needs when they arrive.

Where is glüf available?

glüf is available on iOS and Android. It is currently focused on the UK market, with over 1,000 registered users and active users returning an average of four times per month. Download glüf free at www.gluf-app.com or search glüf in the App Store or Google Play.
